After all, a job is something needful for all of us. It does not matter how much is our average earning, or how satisfying it might seem our current activity, it’s part of our human nature to look after the better, to raise our own standards and reach a new level.
I usually recommend that the reader be generous to his/herself and not try to find a new (better) job, as much as get targeted at founding his/her own business, whether online or not.
But, if a new job is on your horizon, I would rather share with you what used to be helpful to get a better job, what was valuable for me.
-
Keep your eyes on the focus.
You are going to offer your services, under a contract, and your aim is to get the position, no matter how hard it might look at the beginning. Simon Bolivar used to say: “Him who dare not hope to succeed, is already defeated”.
-
Raise your expectations at a reasonable level.
Reasonable, in terms of wages is shored-in by the market offer-demand mechanism. In plain English, if the market is paying 50-70 USD per hour of the specialized work that you know well, then get 75. It’s not easy, but, given the right circumstances, there will be strong chances that you get it.
-
The first impression counts for 75% of the opinion.
Yes, you should dress neatly, walk appropriately, talk fluently and in general, sell the best first impression ever. It only takes 250 microseconds to establish a profile (of yours) based on the image that you project.
-
Write a proposal, take it with you.
Together with the Curriculum Vitae, yes, you should have a proposal. It’s the only way to demonstrate why the employer should hire your professional services. You had not thought about it, right? Well, now you know one of my most-valuable secrets.
-
Expose your proposal and listen carefully.
Most of the time, a fluent, yet humble speaker, will surpass the chances of the proud applicants. After all, the employer is looking after to hire a nice person, capable, responsible and sociable. If you achieve in showing him/her the benefits of getting you into the firm, then forget about the competition, the position will be yours.
But, I insist: Make your mind on your own business, as soon as possible.
